NBA.com’s take on 10 players who helped their case this past week.

1. Kevin Durant, SF, Oklahoma City
Showcase stats: 20 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 5-12 fg, 1-4 3pt, 9-9 ft

In order to ensure a spot on next year’s roster, Durant needed to show that he’s more than just a scorer, and he did that. He was a factor defensively and also made plays for his teammates. It took some time for him to get going offensively on Saturday, but he got to the line often and got out in transition for some easy buckets. Barring injury, he’s a lock to be making the trip to Turkey next summer.

2. Rudy Gay, SF, Memphis
Showcase stats: 27 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 11-12 fg, 3-4 3pt, 2-2 ft

The numbers say it all. Nobody was sharper offensively than Gay. We know he’s an athletic freak, but he had his jumper going all week, making him impossible to guard. But because he plays the same position as Durant, he may not find a spot on the roster.

“USA White fall to “USA Blue” in McGee’s debut

JaVale McGee posted 4 points and 3 rebounds off the bench for Team White in yesterday’s USA Basketball Showcase, his first exhibition for Team USA.  While McGee is not guaranteed to make it to the London 2012 games, he represents the first Wizard since Gilbert Arenas to attempt the Olympic cut.

Rose’s squad loses big in Team USA scrimmage

Rose’s White squad was overwhelmed in the second half and lost 100-81. The second-year point guard for the Bulls finished with 6 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 turnovers in 28 minutes of action, hitting 3-of-7 shots from the field.

Many Called, Few Will Be Chosen for Team USA

Point guard. Best bet: Derrick Rose. Jason Kidd won’t return for the 2012 Olympics, so Deron Williams or Chris Paul will take the starting job. Someone will then have to fill the third point guard spot, and Rose and Russell Westbrook are the best candidates.
